Team Coaching, Ubuntu and Cultural Diversity

Our guest speaker, Dumisani Magadlela,will introduce and break down the concept, philosophy and values of Ubuntu as they apply in coaching and people development.

Understanding Ubuntu as just this African philosophy, that it is a way of being, the world can leverage it, strengthening human inter-connection across structures beyond all the elements of diversity, inclusion and justice. This is a tool, a technique, an approach and way of being that helps people to connect – it is a tool to support human relationships. Across the full stature of being humane. Coaching needs Ubuntu more than Ubuntu needs coaching. Understanding coaches with Ubuntu can establish connection and of seeing their client not just as extensions of themselves but as gifts. This is what Dumi and other coaches refer to as Ubuntu Coaching. The session will also cover the fast-growing subject of team coaching and how deploying Ubuntu in team coaching assist teams, organizational systems, and all relevant stakeholders.

Dumi will also present a new concept that he has developed called Ubuntu Intelligence. Below is a quick note on the concept of Ubuntu Intelligence (UbuQ):

"Ubuntu Intelligence© is the ability to constantly recognize our human interconnectedness, and requires new mind-sets and especially 'heart-sets' that see the self in the other. This is not rocket science or brain surgery. It is about making substantive and real changes in how we relate to ourselves first and then to each other, outside the boxes we create to simplify our understanding of each other in our beautiful diversity. Ubuntu Intelligence© is the capacity to be genuinely interested in the other without scratching the egotistical itch of wanting to be seen to be better or doing more than the other… It is transcending the shallow personal gratification of material acquisition and other superficial, ephemeral or temporary achievements. It is about self-less authentic connection and service to others… and to humanity". (Dumisani Magadlela, 2014).
